Jordan Farm is a family-run, grassfed, and animal welfare certified farm on the South Coast of Massachusetts.
Our Mission
Our mission is to produce the highest quality products in a way that has a positive long-term impact on our land, our community, and our planet, while operating as a sustainable, self-sufficient business.
We are Grassfed Certified and Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW). We are also actively pursuing our Regenerative Certification with A Greener World and Rafi-USA, and it is our objective to be certified organic in 2-3 years.
Our Practices
-
We operate a cow/calf farm with a closed herd, where all our animals are born and raised in South Dartmouth, MA. We have focused on the Hereford breed of English cattle for the quality of the meat and their disposition. Every 2-3 years we bring in a new registered bull to service the cows and heifers, focusing on grassfed genetics and ease of birthing in the new bull.
By operating a “closed herd” we are able to reduce the risk of disease introduction and spread. This practice enhances biosecurity, allows for better genetic control, and can lead to improved herd health and productivity over time.
-
Our cattle are rotationally grazed through our 70 acres of clover and grass filled pastures, resulting in well marbled finished meat with higher levels of nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.
We produce all our winter forage from hay fields in our local neighborhood. We are constantly working to upgrade the quality of our pastures to improve the welfare of our animals and quality of our meat.
This practice of feeding our cattle grass promotes animal health, reduces the need for antibiotics, and is often considered more environmentally sustainable than grain-fed methods.
-
Jordan Farm practices no-till farming because it minimizes soil disturbance, which helps to preserve soil structure, reduce erosion and improve the quality of the legumes and grasses.
This practice also enhances soil health, increases carbon sequestration, and promotes biodiversity while reducing the carbon footprint of cattle farming.
-
We started Jordan Farm because of a love of the animals and their positive affect on the land. The welfare of our animals has been, and will always be, front and center to our operations. We have been inspired by the work of pioneers like Temple Grandin and Joel Salatin to provide quality food, shelter and medical care if necessary. The result is happy and healthy cows that create higher quality beef.
-
We follow all USDA organic protocols, and aim to be certified organic in 2 - 3 years.
We do not use any growth hormones, antibiotics or other chemical such as de-worming medicines.
We do provide an organic certified mineral supplement to ensure the health of our animals.
Jordan Farm also does not use any pesticides, herbicides or non organic fertilizers on our fields or our land. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, following these organic standards ensure our meat is as healthy, delicious, and free from chemical residue as possible.
